At the 2025 MLK Day commemoration service, Dr. Bernice King discussed the future of the country under a new president and reminds the nation how her father's ideas of love and power remain relevant today.
The service was held at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.
In her address, Dr. King also rebuked those who would evoke the words of her father but not the spirit of her father who fought for civil rights, especially for African Americans and poor people in this country.
This year, MLK Day coincided with the presidential inauguration as many Americans look for hope as the new presidential regime takes office.
MLK Day was originally designated as a national day of service. A bill was signed into law in 1983 making the third Monday in January a federal holiday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy. The holiday was first observed three years later in 1986.
