Pastor Jamal Bryant blasts other church denomination leaders for their $300,000 partnership with Target

Pastor Jamal Bryant BLASTED the four other church conventions for their new partnership with beleaguered retailer, Target!
Pastor Bryant not only took issue with their partnership with Target during the time of a national boycott, but he also condemned the church conventions for collectively accepting only $300,000 from the Fortune 500 company.
In reference to the partnership, Pastor Bryant told his congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church "We will break any company that doesn't honor our dignity."
According to Pastor Bryant, the $300,000 donation will be divided equally among the four conventions, which equates to $75,000 per convention.
Also, because the partnership is for three (3) years, it suggests that each convention would in essence receive a donation tantamount to $25,000 per year.
The leaders of the conventions who signed on to the agreement with Target include,
- National Baptist Convention USA (Dr. Boise Kimber)
- National Baptist Convention of America (Rev. Samuel Tolbert)
- Church of God in Christ (Bishop J. Drew Sheard)
- National Missionary Baptist Convention (Dr. Anthony Sharp)
These four leaders had announced in February 2025 that they were working with legendary Chicago businessman, Willie Wilson, on a partnership to combat DEI.
The issues seem to be that some were blindsided by their partnership, specifically with Target, especially given the boycott. In addition, it seems to be that they failed to include Pastor Jamal Bryant and others in their negotiations with Target.
Moreover, it seems as if the four denomination leaders failed to recognize and capitalize on their individual and collective power as representatives of the largest Black Church denominations in the nation in their financial negotiations with Target's leaders, thereby downplaying the power and influence of the Black church.
It remains to be seen how Dr. Boise Kimber and the others will respond to Pastor Bryant's public castigation.
