Media mogul, Tyler Perry made a massive donation to Pastor Marvin Winans after video footage of Winans scolding a church member went viral.
In fact, during Sunday service at Perfecting Church on October 26, Bishop Marvin Winans revealed that several donors had stepped forward to support the congregation’s long-running building fund following a week of viral debate surrounding his fundraising practices.
According to Winans, COGIC Bishop Patrick Wooden and his son contributed a combined $2,000 to the project.
Winans then revealed a significantly larger contribution: media mogul Tyler Perry donated $100,000 to the building effort. Winans noted that Perry expressed no hesitation in allowing his name to be mentioned publicly.
Winans told the congregation that, with the latest donations, the church’s fundraising total has now surpassed $600,000.
The announcement comes on the heels of a widely circulated video from the previous week, in which Bishop Winans appeared to correct congregant, Roberta McCoy, for giving $1,200 while standing in a line designated for contributions of $2,000 or more. The clip sparked online criticism and renewed scrutiny of Winans’ long-delayed construction project for the new Perfecting Church facility on Detroit’s Woodward Avenue.
Despite public backlash and recent health challenges, Winans has maintained a determined stance, continuing to push forward with fundraising efforts for the multimillion-dollar project. During his remarks on Sunday, he emphasized that the surge of support in recent days has been a source of encouragement.
“What the devil meant for evil, God turned it around,” Winans told parishioners as he celebrated the unexpected wave of contributions.
