Anyone strolling through social media lately, particularly FB, may have noticed an interesting barrage of similar-looking posts aimed at evoking outrage and undermining the win of Jamal Roberts on "American Idol."
Although these numerous posts seem to be from different accounts, they all use the EXACT same picture of Jamal with the EXACT same caption: Viewers claim "American Idol" finale was rigged as their winner is not JAMAL ROBERTS.
Some of these posts are from non-US accounts, like Cyprus and the United Kingdom, suggesting a bigger ploy at play- to further divide the American public, particularly along racial lines.
These posts create a platform for disgruntled social media users to express their outrage, and even display their racial animus.
Viewers of the show know that Jamal Roberts was a vocal standout from the beginning. He nailed different genres of music week-after-week. Both he and runner-up John Foster will have successful careers.
These "bots" are further proof that viewers should be cautious of illegitimate social media accounts aimed at causing unnecessary outrage, perpetuating racial tensions, and intensifying division in America.
Despite the electronic antagonism, Jamal Roberts debuted #1 on Hot Gospel Song Charts with his single, "Heal."
