Robert Morris, the 64-year-old founder of Gateway Church in Texas, was released from an Oklahoma jail on March 31, 2026, after serving a six-month sentence.

Morris pled guilty in October 2025 to five felony counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child, stemming from the abuse of Cindy Clemishire in the 1980s when she was 12 years old.

Morris was released from the Osage County Jail in Oklahoma shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

Although his jail time is complete, he remains under a 10-year suspended sentence.

He must register as a sex offender for life.

As part of his plea deal, he was ordered to pay $270,000 in restitution to Cindy Clemishire.

Upon his release, Morris issued a statement through his attorney, apologizing to Clemishire and her family, stating that what he did was “wrong” and there was “no excuse for it”.

Morris stated he does not have “a grand announcement” regarding his future and intends to focus on his family and live quietly in his family mansion.
