Pastor Frederick Douglas Haynes III, the longtime senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, has officially resumed his pastoral duties after taking a temporary medical leave earlier this fall, according to a letter issued by the church to its members.

Pastor Haynes first announced his leave of absence in September following a medical diagnosis. While specific details regarding his health condition were not disclosed, the church confirmed that he underwent a period of treatment and rest under medical supervision.

In a video message posted to the church’s official YouTube channel, Pastor Haynes expressed deep gratitude for the prayers, support, and encouragement he received from the congregation and well-wishers during his recovery.

He described the experience as a time of reflection, faith, and renewed purpose.

"I am grateful to God for healing and to this incredible church family for your unwavering love and prayers," Haynes shared in the recorded message.

The announcement of his return has been met with joy among members of Friendship-West and the broader faith community.

A Pillar of Dallas Faith Leadership

Pastor Haynes has served as senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church for 40 years. Under his leadership, the church has grown into a prominent institution known for its commitment to spiritual development, social justice, community empowerment, and global outreach.

Over the decades, Haynes has become a national voice in Christian ministry, civil rights advocacy, and faith-based leadership. He has frequently spoken at national conferences, collaborated with prominent leaders, and served as a mentor to emerging pastors and faith leaders.

Looking Ahead

With his return to the pulpit, church members expect a continuation of his powerful preaching, visionary leadership, and passion for community change.

Church leaders have not yet announced whether any adjustments will be made to his preaching schedule or duties in light of his health journey, but the message conveyed to members emphasized both celebration and continued prayer.
