In a historic move, the MLK International Chapel at Morehouse College has honored an openly gay bishop with an official painting to hang in its hallowed Chapel halls.

Bishop OC Allen III, Senior Pastor of Vision Cathedral in Atlanta, was selected for the honor for his commitment to the ministry and community involvement.

He serves on the Board of Directors for the Human Rights Campaign and was appointed by President Barack Obama to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS.

He's also a former Morehouse of Religion student.

Bishop Allen was previously inducted into the institution's Board of Preachers as the first openly gay minister.

In addition to the oil paining recognition, Bishop Allen also participated the Bayard Rustin Crown Forum panel, “Black Queer Images As Sacred Archive" on March 19, 2026.

During the panel, Bishop Allen conveyed to students that leadership is not an individual act, but one that extends beyond the self.
