"American Idol" has crowned a new winner!

On Sunday's season finale', Jamal Roberts from Meridan, Mississippi was crowned the latest winner of the hit reality singing competition show.

John Foster and Breanna Nix were the runners-up, with Breanna's elimination announced halfway through the finale.

With his win, Roberts becomes the first African American male winner since Ruben Studdard from Season 2 in 2003.

Other successful artists who have emerged from the singing competition show include Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Mandisa, and Jordin Sparks among others.

Judges were impressed by Roberts's vocal consistency as contestants performed a myriad of music genres throughout the competition.

Roberts auditioned for "American Idol" previously before eventually making it onto the show this season.

Jamal Roberts is no stranger to gospel music.

Many may remember Roberts from competing on BET's Sunday Best in 2020, where he finished in the top three. Stephanie Summers eventually won the competition that year in the midst of the pandemic.

Jamal’s first single is his version of “Heal” by Tom Odell, which he sang earlier this season.

"Heal" is currently #1 on iTunes.

Host Ryan Seacrest noted that “it’s been the biggest finale vote in ABC Idol history,” saying that they received over 27 million votes, more than double last year’s finale.

CONGRATULATIONS, JAMAL ROBERTS!
