Yolanda Adams has officially made her much-anticipated Broadway debut as Miss Liza Jane in "Hell’s Kitchen," the musical inspired by Alicia Keys’ life and built around her catalog of iconic songs.

In an interview following her first performance, Adams described the moment as "a bucket-list dream come true, noting:

"Performing on Broadway has always been a dream of mine," Adams said. "Growing up a musician, Miss Liza Jane reminds me of a wonderful mentor that blessed my life immensely … this show feels like home!" (Broadway News[1])

Critics and audiences alike have responded with enthusiasm.

The production, directed by Michael Greif with choreography by Camille A. Brown and a book by Kristoffer Diaz, has been widely praised for its musicality, compelling performances, and energy.

Among the positive reviews, Variety celebrated the production for combining "iconic music and absolute powerhouse vocals." The New York Times called the show "thrilling from beginning to end, deeming it a "must-see."

Adams’ casting has been hailed as an inspired choice by the musical’s creative team. Alicia Keys herself reportedly said she was "beyond excited to welcome one of the greats across the globe … Yolanda Adams … to the Hell’s Kitchen family," adding that Adams’ "singular, extraordinary voice and undeniable presence" would "bring great power, light and emotion to the role." For longtime fans of Adams’ gospel and inspirational music, her transition to Broadway represents both a bold new chapter and a bridge between gospel/soul tradition and theatrical storytelling. For newcomers, it offers a chance to experience that signature vocal power in a fresh context.

As "Hell’s Kitchen" continues its run, many are watching to see how Adams’ unique voice and stage presence will shape the character of Miss Liza Jane and whether her performance will further broaden the show’s appeal across gospel, R&B, and mainstream theatre audiences.
