Derrick Lee, the music director for BET's Bobby Jones Gospel has passed away. He was the songwriter and producer of ten Gospel albums and recordings for many well-known artists, including Bobby Jones himself.
Bobby Jones Gospel was the #1 show on BET for 35 years!
Derrick had been suffering from a number of medical conditions, including Derrick dialysis. In the spring of 2021 he underwent heart procedures, chemotherapy for lung cancer, and most recently, circulation problems with his leg. He had been hospitalized since the week after Christmas. A GoFundMe page had been established to help with his medical needs.
Derrick was a gospel legend, especially in his hometown of Nashville.
He transitioned peacefully on February 19, 2022 at Vanderbilt Hospital.
