Mississippi deacon Eddie Shed died a hero after an Easter egg hunt was terrorized by gunfire.

It all started with a man got into a heated argument with the mother of his child at the Easter gathering hosted by Empowerment Ministries Christian Center (EMCC) and started shooting.

Witnesses say that the man then shot two people who were attempting to de-escalate the situation.

One of those people was Deacon Eddie Shed, who had also served as head of security for the church.

Witnesses said that Shed was protecting the children when the gunfire erupted.

Deacon Shed was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Church Senior Pastor, Dr. Gregg S. Magee, Sr., issued a statement, which stated, "Deacon Shed epitomized the virtues of a hero, displaying selfless courage and bravery that ultimately saved others from harm. He paid the ultimate price for his valor, and we are deeply saddened by this loss.”

Deacon Eddie Shed leaves behind his wife, Doris, and their three children.

A GoFundMe has been set-up to help with the financial burden of his burial.
