According to TMZ, Walmart intends to roll-out a "celebration edition" of ice cream in honor of JUNETEENTH, the day the last enslaved Americans got the news President Lincoln had abolished slavery.
The ice cream supposedly will contain swirled red velvet and cheesecake ice cream flavors and will include the message, "Share and celebrate African-American culture, emancipation and enduring hope."
The Juneteenth ice cream has rattled some who call the new dessert "tone-deaf" and corporate exploitation, while others commend the largest retailer for highlighting and commemorating the holiday.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that the new Juneteenth ice cream is cultural CELEBRATION or cultural EXPLOITATION?
The Juneteenth federal holiday will be June 19, 2022.
